Tim Wilson

Born and raised in Palmerston North, Tim Wilson is one of New Zealand’s top landscape artists. Tim’s passion is landscape and how it affects us emotionally. His paintings capture dramatic New Zealand scenery and, based in Queenstown, much of his current work is of Central Otago. Self-taught, Tim’s work is high demand from private collectors nationally and internationally.

Tim's passion was ignited in 1970 when, as a 16-year old, Tim was on a school trip to the South Island.  Travelling between Wanaka and Lake Hawea, he was struck with the way the light touched the landscape. At that moment, he knew he wanted to be a landscape artist.

Over the next few decades, a determined Tim (who trained as a jeweller) experimented and developed a unique style of painting that uses as many as 30 layers of transparent glazes and interface pigments to achieve the play of light that is characteristic of his work. Paintings can take many months to complete and he often works on more than one piece at a time.
