Annette Dickison
Annette Dickison artist.
Annette grew up on a farm in Southland. Her home was surrounded by beautiful gardens and landscapes. It was from this background that her passion for painting and drawing grew.
Her tertiary education in fine arts at Ilam School of fine Arts Canterbury University developed her early painting skills.
Later after marrying she lived on a farm not far from her childhood home. Between her farming activities and raising her children, time to pursue an artistic career was scarce in the early years of her marriage.
However during the nineteen eighties and nineties she taught art in secondary schools and for several years she submitted weekly pen and ink drawings to the Gore "Ensign" newspaper.
Annette was well known in the southland area for designing and painting theatrical sets for many stage productions. She painted murals both indoors and outdoors, in the district, and later some also in Auckland.
In the nineteen nineties after returning from a period of time in Europe, Annette began painting seriously in oils. She became particularly known for her stunningly beautiful flower paintings. She also paints still life, portraits and landscapes. Her small works now feature New Zealand's landscapes, flora and fauna.
Annette now lives in Auckland, to be near her children and grandchildren, and tutors art classes and private pupils regularly.
Her work, which is favoured by international tourists, is designed to delight the senses and raise the spirits of the viewers.
