"Mauriroa" the Maori translation for longevity.
This painting is of ‘Tane Mahuta’ the majestic kauri tree growing in Northland New Zealand.
The kauri is held in high regard in Northland with a history of felling to near extinction.
The wood was used to build villas for the early settler homesteads.
Kauri gum was also highly regarded and used in a wide number of ways.
The ‘Kiwi’ bird is endemic, nocturnal and flightless.
Kiwi has come to somewhat represent New Zealand and all it stands for.
Kiwi being nocturnal makes it rare to catch a glimpse in the wild however various wildlife sanctuaries have Kiwi not fit for release but lovely to view.
Another bird that New Zealand, conservation supporters are striving to save.
