With the benefit of hindsight, I’m certain I was born to be an artist. As a child I was passionate about drawing, and in high school I was selected into an art elective. But academic pressure put art on the back burner and I pursued a career initially as an animal scientist and then as a veterinarian. Joining a local arts group in rural Hawkes Bay in 2000 and being tutored by well known landscape artist ‘Anne MacMillan’, was a turning point. A subsequent group exhibition and the sale of my first piece was the beginning of my professional career. Since then I have been involved (and won awards) in numerous exhibitions (solo and group) and been represented by at least 9 galleries throughout New Zealand. I am currently represented by 4 commercial galleries, including the Central Art Gallery, and am a member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts. I am fortunate to live and work in Central Otago, as a professional artist.

My work is mostly intuitive – I imagine and create original visual statements in response to experiences or ideas that have left an impression on me.  Current themes include: standing out from the crowd ‘NZ style’ through quirky heavily textured sheep or cattle; celebrating and preserving our enduring landscape through impressions of our back country on canvas; exploring ideas of community and collective action through tessellated humans; evoking memories of holidays through the ‘bach’ series; and associating basic geometric shapes with recognizable form on plexiglass. My work is held in private and corporate collections, internationally, including the Hawkes Bay Regional Council in NZ, and a private collection in Oman.

I believe in the power images have to uplift us. They help us remember the good within us and within our world in spite of how the world might sometimes appear. They help us remember our humanity.

I aim for my artwork to evoke pleasant memories, bring a smile to your face and/or whisper messages to your soul. My artwork brings me joy, peace and inspiration. It is my sincere hope that it does this for you too.
