Clark Esplin, son of Tom Esplin, was born in St Andrews in Scotland in 1941. He moved to New Zealand with his family in 1955. Clark was educated at John McGlashan College, Dunedin. He went on to Dunedin Teachers Training College and Otago University.
Since1962 Clark has been an artist and art teacher. He was the vice-president of the Otago Art Society but moved to Christchurch in 1976, where he is currently a working life-member of the Canterbury Society of Arts.
His earlier water colours, often of fishing boats and yachts, represent a free and strongly coloured style. He exhibits regularly in sole exhibitions and as quest artist at many important shows.
Clark has travelled widely in Europe, China and the Pacific. Clark is a highly respected artist, regarded for his expertise in handling the difficult water colour medium.
Clark’s work in water colour and acrylic has wide appeal and is highly sought after
